Myerscough College Open Day

Sunday 6th June , 2010

Ian McCormack asked me if we would like to go to Myerscough College open day, as it was a local show. We arrived on Friday night and was met by Roy Bassnett who showed us down to the camping site, a very pleasant wooded place right next to a fishing lake. Pitched the tents but had to keep moving frogs away, as they were very interested in what we were doing. Roy Bassnett was very helpful and showed us round on a golf buggy. It is a massif college.  We spent a quite Friday night, just had the security guard doing his rounds to see us. Then C/pl Russell came on the Saturday. He is US army but is on secondment to the Home Guard. Hands across the sea and all that. Another quiet night, with a little music, and a few beers by the lake.

Sunday morning lots of noise banging trade stalls been set up, all sorts going on, as stall holders had minimum time to organize their  areas.

The rest of our platoon arrived along with other members of the MVT with there vehicles .

The weather was good, the camping site was excellent, It's just a pity that the event only runs on the Sunday, as there is too much to see on one day. The platoon was very active marching round the college grounds. To cries of "Don't tell him your name, Pike!".

The Lancashire Evening Newspaper, even took photo's of the squad.

Yes Ian, you can book us in for next year.

Mid afternoon, and the crowds are drawing into our area. We had a huge amount of interest, from all ages. From one old hero from the Ardennes offensive, to a 1 year old.

Dave "Reo" McCoull, unfortunately was sat very near the new hand cranked air raid siren. We had told the kids, the faster you turn the handle, the louder it gets. And it was turning pretty fast here........

Meanwhile, Private Roger Preston, was on guard, never wavering in his duties, unless it was for a cup of tea and a biscuit.

C/Pl Spencer James, was ruthless in his drill instruction. Even Penny the dog as coming to attention.  Many thanks to everybody who came to support.
