Carnforth Station Tea Rooms.
Brief Encounter Weekend.
20th - 21st June. 2009
Carnforth
this year was better attended, with more trade stalls and more public. The towns
shops and pubs decked their fronts and windows with bunting and flags. The
charity shops had fabulous windows decked out with forties gear, but if you
bought it you couldn't take it out of the window because they wanted it to look
nice for the 40's weekend. Elaine looked in on Friday and most of the gear had
been sold already but was left in the window to display.
A big thank you to the South Cumbria and North Lancashire MVT members who came along with all their vehicles and gear to display. I know all the hard work setting up and taking down the gear, as well as the fuel cost to get to these events. Without these enthusiasts these shows would not happen. So a big thank you to them.

The station platform, full of Jeeps and a Dodge

Every available space was used to display owners collections.
Paul's NSU Kettenkrad had a lot of attention, as there are not many left in this condition..

Re-enactors this time rubbing shoulders with members of the public. Elaine sang
her heart out all weekend and is now shattered. Resting now, getting ready for
the Ingleton Event. Great dancing on the platform from our members and even the
public joined in.
The Cenotaph parade went off perfect, thanks to S/gt Max Woodhouse from the Ingleton Home Guard who drilled the troops. The Carnforth Mayor and Town Crier came along this year to add their support. There was even a visit from a GWR steam train which stopped to refuel, the train spotters came along and mixed in with the proceedings.
Elaine, singing to the troops as usual...

Sat night knees up was really busy, with the Navy guys from Lanra on the door greeting the revellers. A great spot of boogie woogie playing on the piano from Grandad Gordon Fox, brilliant.......
The Bacon butties and tea were kept coming all day by Andrew from the tea rooms, The big radio controlled tanks caused a bit of a stir when the Tiger tank went through the middle of the tea room.
All in all a good weekend.
John.

The GWR loco, steaming through the station after refuelling, and water top up. It came thundering back through early evening...

The station platforms were always buzzing with re-enactors of all sorts of uniforms and costumes. Mingling in with some rather bemused looking public, while getting off their normal Saturday and Sunday trains.
Note the gaggle of train spotters at the end of the platform, looking at the GWR loco. Just like us waiting for a Sherman to go past !!!

Roops admiring John's what ja' ma' thingy.....

And lastly, John in one of his nostalgic moments, live in peace with your pipe....
